The Suburbo Continues . . .

Because New York is a walking city (along with being a public transportation city), it naturally allows you interact with hundreds of people each day (or not).    Quite naturally, you get to know the people in your neighborhood, whether it's at the cleaners, the flower stand at the bodega, or the local diner.  Sadly, "Big Nick's Burger Joint," which resided between 76th & 77th Street for 50 years was forced to close in the summer of 2013 (https://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/08/farewell-to-big-nicks-burger-joint/), a neighborhood tragedy and a reflection of "upgrading" that is happening all around the Upper West Side --- and all around the city.  (See Jeremiah Moss's Vanishing New York)  Nonetheless, the city's character is created in each neighborhood, by the people who live there, and that's where the true vitality of Gotham resides!

Like this new focus...New York...big cities....vs. suburbia...
As a person bred in NYC I sure can relate.
