OLD Writing
This section contains stories written about 30 years ago, mostly when I was living in Boston and teaching English at Winchester High School. I was doing a great deal of writing at that time (some screenplays and stage plays, too, which may appear here at some time in the future). What I am going to try to post here are stories in their original form --- that is, they were written on an IBM Selectric, which allowed me to change the "element" so that I could use a different type face (the precursor to "fonts") in one story --- or from story to story.
Some of the stories are still in early draft form and contain notes in handwriting --- what the hell, let's make the process transparent.
The stories are generally dark (I was strongly influenced by Breece D'J Pancake, a brilliant West Virginian who ended his life, tragically, at the age of 27 in 1979, leaving behind one book of stories ---aptly titled, The Stories of Breece D'J Pancake). I highly recommend him to you for a look at incredibly well-crafted short stories.
You will have to use the scroll bar, on the right below, to go down through the first two stories, "Leaves" and "Ardel's Package." They are cockeyed on the page and the old typing is laughable but I guess it's a sign that I've given up on the idea of "publishing" any of this (beyond posting it here) and simply want to put them out so that anyone might read them.
If you do read these, and/or any others that may appear here, please feel free to send feedback ("critical," as I always told my students, means "serious," and not necessarily just "negative.") [email protected]
Thanks for any time spent here --- or anywhere else on the site!
