                                                                                             A Musical (?) Interlude

As we face the prospect of losing our Internet privacy & continue to be bombarded by the Twitter-in-Chief, I thought it might be appropriate to post a song I wrote back in May, 2016, about Social Media.

My friend Steve Jones said this reminded him of Tom Waits's The Piano Has Been Drinking (if you haven't heard that one, check out YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPPtrqvHGEg) and, though flattering, I am neither the singer nor the piano player Waits is --- by more than a long shot.  Nonetheless, I thought this ditty might prove apropos and amusing --- and I hope I have uploaded the audio correctly.

Listening Note: You may want to start the audio and then follow along reading the lyrics to make this a more bearable experience.
The Social Network(?)

I don’t Tweet or Tumbl/and when I speak I mumble/
walking I can stumble . . .
What do you make of that?

No Instragram or Facebook/no  username or cool Nook/
no Kindle or celeb cook . . .
What do you make of that?

What the heck is CafeMom ?/ And I don’t like Classmates.com/
might as well just  photo-bomb!
What do you make of that?

Instragram is not for me and SnapChat seems a luxury
for people using precious time,
please do not start wasting mine!

Google is the way to go and YouTube can sure tell and show /
but I really do not want to know/
my life is just fine.

Music comes from Spotify /and I’ll tell you, it’s no lie , /
Pandora might just be the place/
when you’re worn out from MySpace.

LinkedIn, Foursquare, and there’s Yelp /I’m sorry I don’t want the help/
WhatsApp, Meetup, Match.com /
I’m wishing it would all be gone.

Cyberspace is wonderful in, oh, so many ways/
but I am left here all alone,/longing for the days/
When privacy was mine alone and hacking was a cough/
Please do me a favor /take your sites and just fuck off.
