The Most Egregious "Affirmative Action" Case Ever
While some high school seniors will bemoan the notion that one of "them" will get that senior's rightful place at Harvard, and some corporate bootlicker will spend time at the water cooler complaining " I can't believe that (insert racial slur here) got that promotion over me --- and we know why, don't we?" I'd contend that the most hideous case of Affirmative Action perpetrated in this nation's history is presently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
I'm being facetious, of course, but in the cases above -- and in all the "reverse discrimination" grumbling you can hear out there -- the basic premise is that someone (with real affirmative action, a woman or person of color) -- was given a chance for a position they previously were not eligible for. In the case of affirmative action, the purpose was to balance scales that had long been historically tilted in one (white, male) direction. With the new "reverse discrimination" reasoning, however, the interpretation of "affirmative action" means allowing someone who is unqualified get the position simply because they are a woman or a person of color.
If we apply that "reverse discrimination" mentality to the current occupant of the White House, didn't he get to where he is simply because of who he and his family are and who they know? I'll submit some video to support my contention that George Bush is the beneficiary of "reverse reverse discriminaiton" (therefore the "New Affirmative Action" -- in a 1984 world where everything old is new again?).
Just watch and tell me that this is someone who, clearly, EARNED his way into Andover, Yale, Harvard, the Governor's Mansion, and the White House.
The damage that has been done to the country in this man's eight years in office will not be undone in my lifetime! That he has made us a debtor nation for a long, foreseeable future; that he has engaged in a pointless and endless war to line the pockets of his cronies; that he has condoned torture and asserted imperial power for the executive --- in another day and age would have, each, been an impeachable offense. In a world that impeaches one president for sexual misconduct, how is that a man responsible for driving a nation to the brink or ruin, a man who has time and again violated the Constitution, a man who has arrogantly ignored the will of the people and refuted the notion of "consent of the governed, how is it that for him, there is no impeachable offense?
So, for those who are upset about "Affirmative Action" I'll simply point to the White House --- but I'll agree with Rep. Charles Rangel who said (I'm paraphrasing) "George Bush certainly puts an end to the myth of White Supremacy." True, but . . . .he still got to be President, in a world more concerned with lapel flag pins than body bags and maimed youth.
Good night, and good luck.
